Ratified Agreement between GEO-UAW 1596 (UMass Boston) and the University of Massachusetts Boston

Memorandum of Agreement

This Agreement (“Agreement”) is entered into on September 29, 2020 by and between the Graduate Employee Organizations, UAW Local  1596 (“Union” or “GEO”) and Board of Trustees of the University of Massachusetts (“University”), collectively, “the Parties,” and contains the parties’ entire agreement for a Collective Bargaining Agreement covering the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, to succeed the parties’ Collective Bargaining Agreement covering the period July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020.

The Parties hereby agree to agree to amend the duration and extend the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement for the period of one year, July 1, 2020 through June 30 2021, with no increases to stipends or other increases.

The Parties agree to commence bargaining for a successor agreement the week of March 1, 2021.

Memorandum of Understanding

This Agreement (“Agreement”) is by and between the Graduate Employee Organizations, UAW Local 1596 (“Union” or “GEO”) and the University of Massachusetts (“University”), collectively, “the Parties,” who agree to the following terms effective upon the ratification on the MOA executed on September 29, 2020.

Notwithstanding the terms of Article XIV Health and Welfare as set for the in the 2017-2020 collective bargaining agreement, the Parties agree that for the Academic year beginning September 2020 only, the University will freeze the rate of graduate assistant Student Health Insurance Plan student cost at the same dollar amount as for AY 19-20 for AY 20-21.  This provision shall expire on June 30th 2021 and the Parties shall revert to the language of Article XIV as it appears in the 2017-2020 collective bargaining agreement.

For the Fall 2020 semester only, related to impact of COVID 19, GEO members who are on the on-site/essential list as maintained by Human Resources, will be provided a mechanism, determined by the University, to park without charge in Lot D (i.e. Fall 2020 semester COVID related parking pass that waives parking fees in Lot D for duration of the fall semester for those on the referenced list)

The Parties will resume monthly labor management meetings to address impact issues and other labor management concerns.
