Program Representatives are a key connection between the GEO’s leadership and its membership. As a Program Rep, your job is twofold:
1. Share information about the GEO with your department. Program Reps attend meetings with the GEO Organizing Committee a few times a semester to stay up-to-date on what’s going at the GEO. They let people in their departments know about GEO resources and upcoming events, and answer questions other grad students have about the union. This can all be through casual conversations—no need to plan meetings in your department.
2. Share information about your department with the GEO. If grad students in your program are having a problem with their roles as RAs and TAs, let us know! We want to hear if members are getting paid late, have unreasonable supervisors, or if anything else comes up.
Being a Program Rep is a flexible role with a minimal time commitment—outside of a few short meetings per semester, you can devote as much or as little time as you’d like. Nonetheless, being a Program Reps is one of the most helpful things you can do for the GEO.
If you are interested in becoming a representative for your program, email us at geo@umb.edu — we’ll get back to you soon after and let you know how you can help.
