Scholarly Support Fund Checklist

This document is meant to be a comprehensive list of everything you will need and have to do in order to apply for funds from GEO’s SSF Fall 2020 period. Please review it carefully, and treat it as a light instructional manual for completing the SSF process. Remember that the SSF Form will be made live on the GEO website (https://tempgeouaw.wordpress.com/scholarly-support-fund/) at 8 am, November 9, 2020. 

  • Before November 9th…
    i.    Make sure you are a GEO member. You can do this by reviewing your paystubs and looking for the dedication “Boston GEO Dues”. For more information, see item 1.2 of the SSF FAQ.
    • If you are not sure if you are a dues-paying GEO member and need help, please email us at geo@umb.edu

ii. In order to be eligible, you must be a dues-paying member before you apply.

  • The SSF Form will go live at 8 am, November 9th. To fill it out as quickly and comprehensively as possible, we recommend you have the following information hand before November 9th:
    • First and Last Name
    • Preferred Email Address
    • Student ID 
    • Local Telephone Number 
    • Graduate Program 
    • I will use SSF funding for: (Select one or more of the following items)
      • Conference registration fee(s)
        • Name of conference, starting date of conference, and name of host organization
      • Academic association membership fee(s) 
      • Software license for research
      • Access to database/article(s)
      • Book(s)
      • Library fee/Interlibrary loan fee(s)*
      • Technological peripheral(s)
      • Ergonomic equipment
    • One sentence (per item) explaining why you need the items marked above for your academic development. Keep it simple! This in no way will influence your qualifications for receiving funding. 
    • Other source(s) of funding you may be receiving for the same expense(s) selected above, if any. 

After you apply… 

  • Immediately after you apply, and hoping for the best, you should begin gathering your receipts. You will be told within a few days of the application window closing if you have been accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.
  • If you were accepted…
    • If you haven’t provided your receipts, you will have 10 days starting from the date you receive the first GEO email notification/receipt request to send us all the receipts needed to process your grant. 
      • This round of SSF funding is running on a limited timeline. We would appreciate it if you can provide your receipts as soon as these are requested so we can distribute funds as soon as possible.
    • If you applied for funding and no longer need it, please let us know as soon as possible so other grads in the list can benefit from this round of funding.

  • As a reminder, the maximum reimbursement amount for every applicant is $200.
